Welcome to the November 2023 Get Up and Go detailing the many events and attractions 100 FSS have coming up this month. We’re celebrating Thanksgiving in style at the Galaxy Club with our Thanksgiving Buffet Meal on November 23rd. We’ll have all your tasty holiday favorites in our traditional buffet - eat in or take away. At the Bob Hope Community Center there’s Thanksgiving-themed crafts with the opportunity to paint ceramic turkeys and pumpkins and enter our Thanksgiving Wreath Contest (full details page 9) November means Dinovember at the library – the week every year when we combine two of our favorite things: dinosaurs and reading books! Drop by the library for some dino-fun with a ‘dino-dig’, a monster movie and a special dinosaur storytime (see page 29 for full details). Getting ready for the holidays? We have our annual Holiday Tree lighting in Washington Square where you can pick up some festive goodies! We had the distinct honor to highlight our coaches, and volunteers of the year 2022-23. Here is a recap of our annual winners. WORDS: Chad Barkalow - Youth Sports Director
TOP DAWG PARENT/ VOLUNTEER 2022-23 Clarence “Cam” Campbell is known to all at the ballfield, court or any event by his huge smile, and welcoming positive attitude. Cam has been a huge part of our program this past year. Cam refereed for our flag football season in ‘22 and excelled keeping a calm head, staying positive and brushing off comments. I distinctly remember a call where a parent said “that was a bad call ref” to which Cam replied “OK! And ran away with a smile on his face

to get the kids going again”. His calmness and positivity under pressure really help teach the kids our values and keep our games fun. Cam also was seen coining youth who had shown positivity and sportsmanship during games out of his own collection of coins earned during his own military career. Cam could also be seen helping out during any sports season, stepping in with “what do you need?” and mentoring our teens in our Teen sports leadership program Leaders of the Pack. Whether he is umping a game or coaching from the sideline, Cam is truly has made
a great impact on our program and someone we are glad to say is a member of the Dawg Pound! TOP DAWG COACH 2022-23 Matt Byous is a coach, family man and athlete, but where he really shines is his passion and heart for helping kids and families. Matt started our year out with jumping in when needed to cover baseball games by umping when we had none show up. He went on to coach flag football, basketball, outdoor soccer and baseball in this past year. He has made a big impact over the course of 7
YoutH ProGRAMS seasons (2 basketball, 2 soccer, 2 football and 2 baseball) putting in over an estimated 80 hours this year and easily 160 hours of volunteering for our program. Matt really shines when he discusses his love for sports, what he can do to help improve our sports and positive attitude and careful coaching he gives to the youth. He is a big supporter of our program, but we are lucky enough to have his three children Maximus, Kinley and Kylar join us when they can during the year. Matt coaches his own children, but we can see that when he is out on the field he is not just there to help his own children, he really wants to make all of them learn and grow!

that can stand firm when the chips are down, keep positive in the chaos and reinforce the resiliency, sportsmanship and values we want to build in our youth that come through Mad Dawg Sports. You can not only see the positive impact Jamie has made in her own children, but on her teams and interacting with other parents and families. Whether its delivery issues with jerseys, umpires/referees not showing up or any other situation that arises Jamie really stands above the rest with her calm demeanor and take care of business attitude. Jamie has been an amazing addition to our program and we are glad to have her come teach our youth what a positive, fun, competitive sports experience really is! TOP DAWG HONORARY TEAM MEMBER #9 Bob Oljay can be found at the 100 FSS Galaxy Club working hard, organizing and setting up displays, but anyone that knows Bob knows it is no secret that he is a huge baseball fan!! If you have the chance to meet up with Bob, please plan to spend at least an hour talking about baseball, looking
at his amazing collection and the fun history of how he got some of his baseball bats, balls and endless collection of baseball items. We first came to Bob from one of his co-workers to discuss him setting up his amazing sports memorabilia display to share at our baseball opening ceremony. The ceremony was the day after Juneteenth so Bob brought out an amazing display to represent, military players, hispanic league players, Negro League historical memorabilia and more. Bob was so excited about helping the youth and volunteers that support them that we began talks about donating items from his collection to show his thanks to those that help our youth and who were chosen as TOP DAWG of the Year. Bob has spent countless personal hours volunteering to set up, discuss and show his personal collection during our opening season, and end of season party. As a sign of our appreciation we have awarded Bob Oljay as the ONLY Mad Dawg player to receive his own jersey #9 (for his favorite player Ted Williams). Thanks for all you do, and welcome to the Pound!

Give Parents a Break is a FREE program for eligible members and is sponsored by the AF Aid Society. However, families must have a referral voucher or certificate at the time of registration issued by a Unit Commander, First Sergeant, Chaplain, doctor/ medical professional, Family Advocacy, Youth Programs or Child Development Center Director, or the Military & Family Readiness Center. Kid's Night Out (Nov. 17) : $28 per child. Register by noon on the Wednesday before care is provided along with all required paperwork.
