Food Advisory Council Inviting Airman to have their say! Words by Rae Lovell
THE FOREFRONT OF FSS is service and support for our Airmen. Last month we saw RAF Mildenhall’s Gateway Dining Facility put our Airmen first by inviting them to have their say! In an effort to hear from their patrons, Gateway DFAC held an open forum to hear questions and concerns. The Food Advisory Council had a huge turnout, especially from the
18
unaccompanied Airmen living in the dorms as well as from the later shift workers that the DFAC primarily serves. Gateway was able to explain some behind the scenes information to help their patrons understand the way the DFAC runs. Meanwhile the leadership team collectively gathered details on how Airmen would like to see the DFAC food and services improve and how
| DECEMBER 2021
they could make the facility better for the base. Gateway Dining not only held this event in person in the facility but also streamed it on Facebook Live from the 100 FSS Facebook page. A survey was sent out on social media and on fliers put on dorm doors with a reminder of the time of the event. Between hosting this event live, in person
Airmen can expect to see improvements applied and will be able to address any ongoing concerns at the next Council and virtually, and allowing for survey submissions before and after the event, Gateway Dining has been able to hear from a wide array of their patrons. These tactics allowed them to receive information from all squadrons and shifts and the DFAC plans to continue to be accessible to each category of Airman they serve. This Food Advisory Council may have had the highest number of patron attendance and
participation, but it was not the first and it will not be the last of its kind. Airmen can expect to see improvements applied and will be able to address any ongoing concerns at the next Council. Gateway Dining aims to hold one of these Councils once a quarter moving forward to keep communication open. In an effort to stay in touch with the primary DFAC patrons, unaccompanied Airmen living in the dorms, Facebook events will
correspond with the in person events. A survey can be found at the link on this page to provide continuous feedback. Be sure you have your say in your Gateway Dining Facility!
