T
he 100th Air Refueling Wing held a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the Boom Operator Weapon System Trainer, or BOWST, at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, Oct. 13, 2020. The BOWST is a simulator that enables boom operators to hone their skills on the ground and allows instructors to evaluate student development before they complete real-world operations. "The simulator allows us to train boom operators without having to get in an airplane and gives us

different visibility conditions, all while staying at home station. “Previously, we’d have to send people on temporary duty to receive training,” said Senior Master Sgt. Jon Adams, 351st Air Refueling Squadron superintendent. “We were only getting half of the training that we should have been getting

752nd SOAMXS conducts CV-22 emergency landing training Airmen assigned to the 752nd Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron conducted emergency landing training with a CV-22 Osprey aircraft at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, Oct. 19. The training prepared maintainers and CV-22 aircrew to conduct emergency landing in the event of a landing gear malfunction. In the event of an emergency,maintainers will guide the aircraft to land on a set of reinforced mattress pads to ensure the safety of both aircrew and aircraft.
Previously, we’d have to send people on temporary duty to receive training on an annual basis because of the TDYs. This trainer is going to help us fill our requirements, cut training costs and save time,” Adams continued.
Battle of the Badges, fire muster events build camaraderie, raise fire prevention awareness The Battle of the Badges and fire muster events were held at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, Oct. 8, 2020. The Battle of the Badges consisted of timed physical events held to build teamwork and camaraderie among first responders, and the fire muster consisted of a relay of fire-related physical challenges to increase fire prevention awareness.
The simulator provides boom operators the convenience of completing training at home while allowing them to obtain the necessary skills in a much shorter time frame. “We can get someone qualified, mission ready and out the door quicker compared to what we had to do in the past,” said Berge. “With the addition of the BOWST, we can set our Airmen up for success by giving them multiple ways to accomplish their training, maintain proficiency and continue to accomplish the mission.”

MIL-D-Con Roundup
A Virtual Mission Creating the best online Comic-Con in the Galaxy!
E
verybody loves a good story. Books, comics, and film make our imaginations and these stories come alive. The love and life in these stories help us make our Mil-D-Con a popular event for all ages. It’s one of the most exciting and creative days of the year at RAF Mildenhall, bringing the local community together to take part in contests, competitions, games and discussions with other enthusiasts. Due to the circumstances of this year, pulling off Mil-D-Con could've been tough, but with the help of social media we got the messages out quickly to all who are interested. We took the challenge of taking Mil-D-Con virtual. 2020 has been difficult for everyone, with the majority of the world's events being postponed or canceled all together, due to covid-19. As the first Mil-D-Con event was such a big success in 2019, our small crew at the 100 FSS Marketing office did not want to wait another year for our second great Mil-D-Con.

MIL-D-Con Roundup THE MARKETING TEAM AT THE CENTER OF THE ACTION Our leader Kianna Gousby bravely took the controls, managing the team through the many obstacles on our journey and making sure the Marketing ship ran smoothly. With hundreds of gigabytes of video data to process and edit we needed a hero of our own. Luckily for us, "Victoria Wicker" flew in to offer her digital skills just in the nick of time to hit our fast approaching deadline. Victoria also read a children's story in Spanish Our very own web Jedi “Rae Lovell” managed to organize and publish all the super content at www.100fss. com - Rae even managed to create her own cooking demonstrations for everyone to try, so go check them out, gather the ingredients and get cooking

Mil-D-Con 2020 was successful, fun, and virtually accessible to more people than ever.
difficult as we were overwhelmed by the creativity of entries. The high number and quality of submissions even delayed our ability to choose and announce the winners. We had too much fun looking through all the art! While holding these creative contests we discovered some great talent, which we hope to feature more next year with an “Artists Alley” and maybe more. All the Sci-Fi fun is not quite over yet. School Age Program RAF Mildenhall School Age Program recognizes the needs of working parents and offers care for children ages 5 - 12 years. Before School, After School, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer Camps are all offered. Our accredited program provides supervised recreational, educational, social and cultural programs for eligible youths. We
offer before and after school care, as well as full-day care on select no-school days. During the school year we provide a full breakfast and see the youths off to their school busses. We re-open at the end of the school day to welcome the youths back with a snack. Our dedicated staff provide a wide range of activities to choose from.
